Libby Ellis: Joyful Participation in A World of Sorrows

During your visit at the Harbor View Hotel, head over to the The Carnegie to experience the photographic work of Island photographer, Libby Ellis, who, like many, finds healing and delight in the blooming seasons—from hopeful crocus buds of late winter to exuberant summer cosmos. In the warm tonality of her large-scale, black-and-white photographs, Ellis invites nature to arrange itself, with room enough for torn leaves, tangled stems, rumpled petals, and hidden insects. Libby Ellis’s contemplative flora portraits reveal, through light and composition, joyful beauty during sorrowful times.

About the Artist

Ellis’ work has previously been included in group exhibitions at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Eric Carle Museum, and other galleries around the United States. Ellis is also the author and illustrator of many books for children, including Buenos Dias Baby, a Top Ten Books for Babies, 2005 (Chronicle Books). Her most recent book, Loss & Found, is a collection of poetry for adults.

Ellis holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley where she was the sole recipient of the Eisner Award in Photography.
